Lavington Name Change - Poem - Lavington MemoriesPoem
Lavington Literary Institute

Yell hip hooray and sing and shout,

The bloomin’ Range is counted
out
Rejoice ye, all and everyone,
We’ve changed the name to Lavington.

At 8 o’clock the hall was full,
And the organ roared like Barney’s Bull.
Then someone tried a song to sing,
And we all yelled out God save the King.

Now the club they call the Glee,
Began to sing most awfullee.
And when the Base put in its spoke.
T’would break the heart of Charlie’s Oak.

Then someone yapped anent the Range,
And someone spoke re Lavington.
We all agreed we liked the change!
The while we gormandised like fun.

Now after this the hall was cleared,
And all of them, who were not beered
Danced and sang, and ‘ere the morning sun,
We unhooked three cheers for Lavington.
